We are proud to present one of our permanent projection mapping installations in the historic center of Tokaj, Hungary — a town located in the heart of the world-famous Tokaj Wine Region.
Today, the system consists of 20 projectors distributed around Tokaj Main Square, transforming multiple architectural facades into one connected projection environment.
The installation operates every evening, bringing the square to life through animation, light, architecture, and visual storytelling.
The projection content is inspired by the history, culture, architecture, and centuries-old winemaking tradition of the Tokaj region. Instead of using a single building as a projection surface, the entire square becomes part of the experience, allowing visitors to discover the story of Tokaj through several interconnected architectural canvases.
The goal of the project was to create more than a traditional projection mapping show.
With a total of 20 permanently installed projectors, different buildings around Tokaj Main Square can become part of a coordinated visual composition. Individual projection surfaces work together to create an immersive atmosphere throughout the square while still respecting the historic architecture of the location.
Thanks to the permanent installation, the projection mapping experience can be presented repeatedly without the need to build a temporary AV infrastructure for each event.
The system is designed for regular operation and allows the city to use projection mapping as a long-term tool for cultural presentation, tourism, seasonal content, special events, and visual storytelling.
Every evening, Tokaj Main Square becomes a dynamic canvas where technology, architecture, and local heritage come together.
The main part of the installation focused on the Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, located directly on Tokaj’s main square. For this projection, we used two LM3X LUMIBOX™ units connected to Panasonic PT-MZ20 projectors.
Both projectors were placed behind the windows of the opposite building, allowing the projection system to remain discreetly hidden while still delivering a powerful and precisely aligned image onto the church facade.
This setup delivered a projection performance comparable to an LM3X LAZR 20K™ solution, combining high-brightness projection with the flexibility of the LUMIBOX™ media server workflow.
The church became the main visual element of the square, presenting the central part of the story about Tokaj’s historic wine culture, local heritage, and the unique atmosphere of the region.

Another example of the installation appears on six historic buildings surrounding the church, creating a complete 360° experience.
Here, eighteen LM3X LAZR 4G™ projection mapping projectors transform the facades into a dramatic artistic canvas.
The projection was designed to visually connect with the surrounding buildings rather than operate as an isolated installation. Content can therefore move beyond a single facade and become part of the wider projection mapping experience across Tokaj Main Square.
Each LAZR 4G™ projector delivers 6,000 ANSI lumens and integrates the Lumiverse™ projection mapping workflow, making it suitable for precise architectural mapping, multi-projector installations, and permanent outdoor visual experiences.
Together with the church and the other projection surfaces installed around the square, this building forms part of the complete 20-projector permanent projection mapping system.

With 20 projectors installed across Tokaj Main Square, the project demonstrates how projection mapping can become a permanent part of a city’s public space rather than only a temporary attraction for individual events.
Different architectural surfaces can be used together, allowing visual content to expand across the square and creating new possibilities for storytelling, tourism, cultural events, seasonal shows, and special occasions.
The result is a permanent projection mapping environment that brings the history and atmosphere of Tokaj to life every evening while preserving the character of its historic architecture.
